Super Bowl and all the money it attracts offers teachable moment about finances
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — There's no denying that the Super Bowl is all about money, and lots of it. Consider that advertisers will spend as much as $3 million to grab your attention during the football championship in hopes of convincing you to buy their products. Payment processing giant Visa Inc., the NFL and educators believe the combination of football and finance creates an ideal teachable moment for youngsters.

Now is the time for a financial game plan, former Iowa State Quarterback Seneca Wallace told group of high school students Tuesday. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback was on hand at East High School to help Visa and Iowa State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald launch a video game that tests student’s knowledge of financial issues.

US Department of Treasury Test High School Students with National Financial Capability Challenge
The US Department of Treasury and Department of Education have developed a new program encouraging high-school students to learn more about personal finance. The program will honor high performance from both students, and teachers who successfully incorporate financial literacy topics into their curricula. The National Financial Capability Challenge exam will be offered from March 15-April 2, 2010.
